red24 has successfully carried out many security responses for its members. Read below for a few examples of how we have assisted our clients throughout the world.
red24 service examples:
Business travel to Moscow
red24 was asked to provide expert advice to a group of business travellers who were planning to attend a conference in Moscow. Although the group were experienced overseas travellers, none of them spoke Russian.
After the regional analyst and security team had undertaken thorough research of both international and local news sources, and had carefully analysed the situation, red24 was able to compile a comprehensive risk profile for the city.
The risk profile covered such aspects as the level and types of crime in the city, the high threat from terrorism due to Chechen rebel activity, and advice on what to do if one encountered police corruption. Information on airports and cultural norms was also included, and the group was alerted to a particularly cold spell of weather that was being experienced in Russia at that time.
Young travellers in South America
A red24 member called to activate his membership and then immediately requested some information on behalf of his son, who was travelling to Peru and Ecuador on holiday. He was travelling on a South Korean passport, using public transport, and had some, but not all, of his itinerary planned.
red24 sent the client a tailored travel report within 24 hours of receiving the request for information. The report noted that while both countries were popular with young travellers, Ecuador was currently experiencing a degree of instability and had a greater potential risk from civil unrest than Peru. The client was warned that the potential for civil disturbance was particularly high in the capital, Quito. We also specifically advised him against travelling to the provinces of Sucumbios and Orellana, near the Ecuador-Colombia border, because of drug-trafficking related incidents in recent years.
In addition to providing comprehensive security and safety advice, the report also supplied the contact details of the South Korean embassies and consulates in both countries. Given the independent nature of his travel, we advised the son to either regularly check our website or to call/email us during his travels so that we could track his progress and update him on any regional developments that might impact on his itinerary or threaten his safety.
red24alert service examples:
Express kidnapping in Argentina
A distressed member contacted red24 for urgent assistance after her daughter was viciously attacked by two armed intruders at her hotel in Buenos Aires during a backpacking holiday. The traumatic incident had been reported to the local police, and the member was now anxious for her daughter’s safe return home.
red24’s security manager immediately contacted the relevant embassy in Argentina, where the victim was seeking shelter. Within an hour and a half of the initial contact, a red24 security specialist in Buenos Aires met with the victim at the embassy. As the victim's passport had been damaged, the specialist arranged for an emergency passport to be issued. He then escorted the victim to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. A hotel room was arranged for the victim and an adjoining room was booked for the specialist. The following morning, the victim was placed on the shortest flight home.
Throughout the incident, our Crisis Response Centre (CRM) provided regular updates to the member by telephone, and once the victim was safely reunited with her family, our senior security adviser personally visited them at home to assure them of red24’s continued support. The family expressed appreciation for red24’s intervention at a time when they felt most vulnerable. They complimented the professionalism shown by all the staff of red24, saying the service was second to none and of the highest value.
Lebanon evacuation
As the Israeli-Lebanon crisis escalated and Israeli air strikes over Lebanon intensified, red24 was contacted late one evening by a corporate member requesting urgent assistance in evacuating one of its employees from Beirut.
The member’s call was immediately transferred to our Operations Director and Security Manager. red24 contacted its security specialist team in Beirut and authorization was given to begin the evacuation procedure. After a careful analysis of the situation by our in-house security team and our on-the-ground specialists, it was decided to evacuate the family via land; the family would be picked up from a hotel close to their home, and would be driven to Aleppo in Syria using a coastal route.
After administering a security briefing to the employee and his family, our on-the-ground security team escorted them out of Lebanon in an armed convoy. They arrived safely at a suitable hotel in Aleppo which had been booked by red24. Throughout the 48-hour operation, red24 updated the corporate member with the latest information on the evacuation and provided regular briefings on the latest developments in the region.
Civil unrest in Indonesia
A red24alert member was in Jakarta on a business trip to a branch of his company. He called red24alert from his hotel room saying that there were rumours that the government had been overthrown by the military, and that civil unrest has broken out in the streets. He also said that he thought he was being watched by a local employee in the branch office of his company, although he had not been specifically threatened in any way.
The red24alert security team moved quickly to establish the actual situation on the streets of Jakarta, and assess the stability of the government. They established that there was no immediate need to evacuate the employee to a place of safety. red24 communicated all of the above to the employee, whose fears seemed to have been allayed. We committed to faxing the employee updates of any related news to his hotel every two hours for the following 12 hours, and at that point to call him again.
Regarding the caller’s concerns about one of the local employees allegedly spying on him, we advised him to note down all suspicious activity which had happened during his trip, and to report the matter to his line manager at head office immediately, and in a full written report when he arrived back in his home country. Twelve hours later, the same employee called red24 to say that a local employee had threatened him, and that he feared for his life and wanted on-the-ground support from red24alert for the remaining three days of his stay in Jakarta. Within 24 hours a security specialist was deployed to Jakarta. The consultant helped ensure that the employee’s final days in Indonesia passed without incident, and that he was able to achieve his business goals for the trip before arriving back at his head office.
